Story Highlights:

Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly headline a growing injury list that continues to reshape Washington’s rotation.

Multiple absences open the door for Cam Whitmore, Justin Champagnie, and others to take on expanded roles.

Washington Wizards enter Thursday night’s matchup looking for stability, but their injury list continues to shape the team’s rotation in significant ways. As they prepare to host the Boston Celtics, the Wizards will once again be without several key contributors, including rookie centerpiece Alex Sarr and rising guard Bilal Coulibaly.

With a roster already stretched thin, Washington faces another test of depth as they attempt to snap a difficult stretch in their 2025 campaign.

Alex Sarr remains out with adductor soreness

The Wizards will be missing Alex Sarr for the third consecutive game, as the young forward continues to manage adductor soreness. The issue has limited his availability throughout the past week, and the team has officially ruled him out for Thursday’s contest. Sarr’s absence removes one of Washington’s most disruptive defensive presences and a crucial interior scorer.

With Sarr unavailable, Marvin Bagley III is expected to take on another extended role in the frontcourt. Bagley has already seen increased responsibility in recent outings, and his size and rebounding will be essential as the Wizards try to compensate for Sarr’s physicality near the paint. Additionally, Tristan Vukcevic should continue to see meaningful minutes off the bench after his strong offensive showing earlier this week.

Bilal Coulibaly sidelined after oblique strain

Washington Wizards will also be without Bilal Coulibaly, who suffered an oblique strain during Tuesday’s loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. The injury has forced the Wizards to rule him out, and early estimations suggest he could miss multiple weeks. Coulibaly has been a bright spot in Washington’s backcourt, offering disruptive defense and improved offensive consistency in his second season.

With Coulibaly out, the Wizards will turn to Cam Whitmore and Justin Champagnie to help fill the void on the wing. Whitmore’s athleticism and Champagnie’s versatility make them key options as the team tries to redistribute minutes across a thinned rotation. Both players project to play increased roles as Washington attempts to generate offensive rhythm and defensive stability.

Additional absences tighten Washington’s rotation

The injuries extend beyond Sarr and Coulibaly. Tre Johnson, Corey Kispert and Sharife Cooper have all been ruled out as they continue to recover from pre-existing issues. Their ongoing absences leave Washington Wizards with limited backcourt depth and fewer shooting options, forcing the team to lean heavily on its younger talent pool
