The Dallas Mavericks recently fired general manager Nico Harrison amid the franchise’s struggling form, where Jason Kidd’s side is 14th in the Western Conference. The former GM of the team has been under fire ever since the blockbuster trade of superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. While the Slovenian has been proving to be a perfect fit for JJ Redick’s side in the absence of LeBron James, the Mavericks keep struggling despite adding No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg in the NBA Draft 2025.
Doncic’s trade can be said as one of the worst ideas the franchise has ever thought of. Shams Charania recently revealed during a conversation with Stephen A. Smith on First Take that it was Harrison’s idea to trade Doncic. Team owner, Patrick Dumont, recently met the former to say goodbye. Meanwhile, taking you back to how he initially reacted to his idea of the blockbuster trade that stunned the whole NBA world once.
How Mavericks owner reacted to Nico Harrison’s idea of trading Luka Doncic to Lakers
Dumont initially laughed at Harrsion when he was introduced to the idea of trading the superstar who powered them to reach the NBA Finals. Harrison, during a press conference in February, had admitted:
“He laughed at me.”
Harrison further said:
"Patrick, he's the owner obviously, he's the ultimate decision maker, but he's entrusted [head coach Jason Kidd] and I to lead the team."
The Mavericks are in concerning form with a 3-8 record this season. The team is coming off an 11-116 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks and will face the Phoenix Suns in their upcoming match.
Meanwhile, the team got Anthony Davis, who has played a great role in the Lakers’ recent development and success. However, the former Lakers star, who was acquired by the Mavericks midseason, is stunning when healthy. The player is currently recovering injury but is closer to returning to the lineup.
