The long wait has now come to an end. While the 2025-26 season is in its conclusion, the league’s Most Valuable Player of the season has also been revealed.  NBA insider Shams Charania revealed on Sunday that Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the 2025-26 NBA Most Valuable Player award, claiming his second consecutive honor.

The 27-year-old Toronto native becomes the 14th player in league history to win back-to-back MVPs, beating out finalists Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets and Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs. The official announcement was scheduled for later Sunday evening on Amazon Prime Video, but the news leaked hours earlier.

The race was widely considered a tight contest between SGA, San Antonio Spurs phenom Wembanyama, and Nuggets center Jokić, the three finalists who dominated the MVP conversation throughout the season. Gilgeous-Alexander ultimately edged out the competition after delivering another elite campaign, joining an exclusive group of just 14 players in NBA history to win back-to-back MVP trophies.
