Luka Doncic Opens Up on Mavericks GM Nico Harrison's Claim

Nico Harrison recently met with team president Rick Welts and two came in front of the media in a closed room setup. Whatever would be the reason for conducting the presser, it did not help, as Harrison walked away with it looking even worse.

On Friday, ESPN aired a one-to-one between Malika Andrews and Doncic on NBA Today. During the interview, Andrews divulged to Doncic about an exchange between ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon and Harrison that took place in the closed-room meeting.

“The reporter said, ‘You [Nico] didn’t believe that the team that went to the Finals last year with Luka as the centerpiece could contend and continue to contend for championships.’ And Nico Harrison said, ‘I’ll say this again, defense wins championships.’”

Andrews then allowed Doncic to respond to Harrison's claim that his defense was holding the Mavericks back from winning a championship.

“It’s just sad, the way he’s talking right now,” Dončić said. “I never said anything bad about him. And I just want to move on. The fans, my ex-teammates, I’ll always keep at heart. It’s time to move on from there.”

Andrews then asked Doncic if he spoke to Harrison on or following the night of the trade, to which he vehemently said "no."
