The Golden State Valkyries are all set to host the Indiana Fever on Thursday, June 19th at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. All eyes would be on star player Sophie Cunningham, whether she starts against the Valkyries or not.

Will Sophie Cunningham start against Golden State Valkyries?

The 28-year-old guard will be starting Thursday's clash against the Valkyries. Her availability for the clash was confirmed after she was left off the team's injury report ahead of the game at the Chase Center.

Cunningham had injured her right ankle during a preseason game on May 10 against the Atlanta Dream. She had landed awkwardly after a jump shot and was then seen limping off the court. As a result, Cunningham had missed the season opener against the Chicago Sky and the subsequent match with the Dream on May 20.

She then made her comeback as Cunningham featured for the next four games as she averaged 6.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. But, soon she re-aggravated her ankle injury during the game against Connecticut Sun on May 30. This time around, she had to miss three games on the trot.

Sophie Cunningham taunts Indiana Fever

Tuesday's clash between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun had witnessed many on-court scuffles. Sophie Cunningham was one of them as she was the part of the second altercation.

During the Fever's counter attack in the tail-end of the game, Cunningham wrapped her hands around Jacy Sheldon and pulled her to the floor. Sheldon got up quickly and retaliated with more pushing.

When you are winning a game by 17 points and you doing this stupid foul, this is just disrespectful, Sun coach Rachid Meziane said. I don't know how Jacy and Lindsay [got] ejected from the game when they did nothing.

Cunningham's foul was a direct response to the incident in which Sheldon had poked Caitlin Clark in the eye. She then later posted an old photo of herself on Instagram where she has her arms outstretched.

Ever since returning to the lineup on June 14th, Cunningham had played in the last two contests as she scored five points in each game and had 5.5 rebounds.
