Former Los Angeles Lakers centre Dwight Howard, who has been plying his trade in the Taiwanese Basketball league, was ejected from a game after getting himself involved in a fist-fight. 12 players were made to leave the court after the incident, including the eight-time NBA all-star.
The incident took place during a match between Howard’s side, the Taoyuan Leopards, and the Taiwan Beer HeroBears. Howard was in his prime form, scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds, apart from seven assists. However, things got unsavoury at the end of the game, when HeroBears captain, Chiang Yu, landed a knock on the face of his opponent Chen Hsiao-jung just one minute before the match ended.
The above video shows how Chiang Yu elbowed his opponent Chen Hsiao-jung in the face, which earned a fierce reaction. The latter tried to reciprocate but match officials quickly got involved and separate the players. Even the HeroBears assistant coach Lin Chieh-ho ran onto the court and charged Chen for his action.
The game had to be delayed for 20 minutes after officials went through the footage to decide which players should be penalised. They eventually pinpointed Eventually, they sent off five from HeroBears and seven Leopards players, including Dwight Howard, despite his incessant protests.
Howard’s side went on to beat Taiwan Beer HeroBears 120-108, but it was the chaotic scenes towards the end that grabbed all the attention.
