Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis missed his team’s recent loss to the Memphis Grizzlies due to a persistent foot injury that has been bothering him since the summer. Despite this setback, Davis has managed to play in nearly every game of the 2024 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, including the Lakers' victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Plantar Fasciitis flare-up forces Davis to sit out

Davis’ injury flared up most notably during the Lakers’ defeat to the Detroit Pistons, leading to a diagnosis of plantar fasciitis. This condition, which causes pain in the heel and bottom of the foot, ultimately caused him to sit out the Grizzlies matchup. However, Davis was able to return for the Lakers' win against the 76ers, where he opened up about how he manages the pain to stay on the court.

“Yeah, getting it loose enough to go out there and play. Then, just trying to manage it throughout the course of the game and make sure I’m staying loose so it doesn’t tighten back up on me,” Davis explained after the game. He added that the key to managing the discomfort is to stay loose and maintain the right balance between treatment and play.

Davis also emphasized the importance of rest days in helping him recover: “The off days, the days in between games, are the most crucial. I get the chance to really get some treatment on it and get it feeling good for when I’m in the game.”

Davis reflects on Lakers’ win over 76ers

Despite missing the game against the Grizzlies, Davis was in action for the Lakers' victory over Philadelphia. Reflecting on the win, Davis pointed out the team’s improvements after a rough 1-4 road trip.

“The things we talked about pregame, transition and getting back to us on both ends of the floor, I think we were able to do that,” Davis said. He also acknowledged that the 76ers were missing two of their star players, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, but reiterated that the Lakers' focus is always on their own performance, regardless of the opponent.

“We just wanted to come out and be better on the defensive end, especially in the transition, and then be better on the offensive end with our execution. I think we did a good job with that tonight,” Davis added.

Davis’ incredible form continues despite injury

Through the early part of the season, Davis has been a dominant force for the Lakers, continuing to put up impressive numbers. Averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, he has been the team’s most consistent offensive threat, showcasing his incredible form despite the ongoing foot issue.

As the Lakers look to get back on track after a tough road trip, Davis’ ability to manage his foot injury while maintaining elite performance is crucial for the team’s success moving forward.
