The 2024-25 National Basketball Association (NBA) season is about to start and the fans are excited to see their favourite players fight it out on the hard court. Last season, several players put up insane scoring numbers. To name a few, there is Luka Doncic, who scored 73 points against Atlanta Hawks and then there is, Joel Embiid, who had 70 points against the San Antonio Spurs. With all these crazy numbers, fans are dying to know who will lead the 2024-25 season in terms of scoring.

Five players who could lead the NBA in points in the upcoming season

Luka Doncic

There is a reason why people call him Luka 'Magic' Doncic. Whenever he has the ball, it either gets converted into a bucket or he pulls out a move from his pocket by creating some out-of-this-world chances for his teammates.

Apart from scoring the most points in a single game last season, he also led in points per game in the league. He averaged 33.9 ppg along with 48.7% shooting. Looking at his numbers from the season before last year, he had the same average with 32.4 ppg. He is one of the contenders to lead the NBA in points.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the best scorers in NBA history despite him lacking a jump shot. In the last couple of seasons, Giannis averaged 30 points and above. He had 304 ppg and 31.1 ppg in the season before last year.

Looking at the consistency that he has shown in the past couple of seasons, makes him a strong contender to lead the NBA in terms of points.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Another player who has averaged 30 points per game in the last couple of seasons is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. His career high is 44 points but SGA is consistent. According to StatMuse, Gilgeous-Alexander led the league in 30-plus-point games last season with 51, one better than Doncic.

He is currently the top star for Oklahoma City Thunder which gives him the opportunity for his scoring outbursts.

Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid was on track to win his consecutive MVP award last season but a knee injury saw the Philadelphia 76ers star made a potential exit. He played 39 games last season, in which he averaged 34.7 ppg, which is higher than Doncic's 33.9 ppg.

Embiid didn't play enough games last season for his scoring figures to qualify. He is the only player on the list who averaged 30 points or higher in the last three seasons. If injuries don't get in the big man's way, then he can comfortably lead the NBA in points.

Jaylen Brown

The only player on the list who averaged less than 30 points per game last season is Jaylen Brown. He averaged 23 points per game last season, which was less than his career-high of 26.6 points the previous year.

He is fresh off an NBA Finals MVP victory and achieving such kind of feat can surely boost his confidence to lead the Boston Celtics this season. He will also have a point to prove after he was snubbed from Team USA in the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympics.
