While almost a month has passed since the sensational Luka Doncic trade transpired, the NBA world is still imbibed with the developments that led to the transfer. Varied assertions about what triggered Nico Harrison to offload the Slovenian have continued to emerge in the aftermath of the trade, and in the process, a fresh entry has come to the fore, which makes a major revelation about the trade.

NBA Insider Reveals What Triggered Luka Doncic's Trade
Luka Doncic's weight issues and his frailties in defense have so far appeared to be the biggest reasons which led to his trade. To give a fresh new narrative to the debate, NBA insider Marc Spears recently stated on The Cedric Maxwell Podcast that it was Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who turned out to be the biggest reason behind Luka Doncic's trade.
Though Brown did not have a direct relation in his transfer but according to Spears the foundation for Luka Doncic's eventual trade was laid by him in the NBA final of last year where Brown owned the Mavericks' star guard.
“People talk about what he did offensively, [but] that dude, he is the reason why Luka got traded,” Spears said, referring to Brown’s performance in last season’s NBA Finals.
Brown was pivotal behind the Celtics winning the championship last season. His ferocious defending against Doncic stemmed immense doubt in Mavs decision makers about Doncic, which led to his tranfer.
“He shut him down in the finals. What he did to Luka in the finals, shutting him down, guarding him full court, making it unbearable offensively… led Dallas to start questioning Luka as the leader of this team, questioning whether he was in shape or not,” Spears continued.

Letting Go off Luka Doncic May Cost Dallas Mavericks
Though Brown got the better of Doncic in the NBA finals, it does not change the fact that Luka Doncic is still a generational talent. Moreover, it was Doncic, who took them to the finals last year and with the inclusion of Klya Thompson to the squad, a trio was formed- Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson- which could have taken the side to the glory. However, it wasn't to be and may go down as an opportunity missed by the Mavericks.
