After enduring five defeats in a row, the Sacramento Kings have pulled the plug on coach Mike Brown, sacking him mid-season. The Kings have had a tumultuous season so far, losing 18 out of the 31 games played. Hence, a tough decision was looming, and came in the form of cutting ties with Brown.

Sacramento Kings Fire Coach Mike Brown

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Sacramento Kings have fired coach Mike Brown, effective immediately. Charania adds that the Kings have lost an NBA-high 13 clutch-time games this season, which comes as a parameter to judge a coach. Mike Brown started his stint with the Kings in 2022, he had a wonderful first season with the Sacramento Kings where he won the Coach of the Year award after Sacramento reached the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs.

His second season was also productive, where the team attained 46 wins, but could not make it through to the playoffs. The heaps of losses in the third season brought an end to his stay at the Sacramento Kings. Brown recently signed a three-year extension with the Kings, which could have kept him at the franchise till 2027. Brown had just finished the training session with the team, had the media session and was on course to board the flight for Sacramento's next game. However, his contract abruptly ended.

Doug Christie Will Take Over The Duties

The sacking has left a position to be filled in the team. In the meantime, Kings legend Doug Christie will take over the coaching helm for the time being. Christie has been associated as an assistant with the team from 2021.

Sacramento Kings are currently at 12th in the Western table and haven't experienced a "W" in the last five games, which includes a frustrating loss against Detroit Pistons that saw Kings endure a 15-point deficit in the final quarter. Consistent losses called for an action to be taken but the decision has startled the NBA fraternity all over the world. Nevertheless, the struggle points out that the Sacramento Kings may need more than just a coach to fix issues on all ends.
