Caitlin Clark has already garnered the stature of a star in the WNBA after just one season. However, with the increase in popularity, there comes certain obligations, but the former Iowa Hawkeye has made it known that she will play out her career on her own terms. The 23-year-old was expected to feature in the NBA All-Star Special 3-point shootout in San Francisco, but she has decided not to participate in the event, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Instead, it has been revealed that Clark wants her first three-point contest to be at WNBA All-Star in Indianapolis this summer.

Stephen A Smith Showers Praise on Caitlin Clark

LA Sparks forward, Chiney Ogwumike, discussed the decision of Caitlin Clark on First Take with Stephen A. Smith, and both individuals agreed with the stance of the Indiana Fever Point Guard. Smith backed Clark by stating that the WNBA All-Star Game enjoyed its biggest-ever viewership in the league's history, whereas it was totally the opposite case when it comes to the NBA All-Star Game, which garnered its second-lowest viewership in league history. He did not forget the pairing of Sabrina Ionescu and Stephen Curry in the three-point shootout, which resulted in the most-viewed All-Star Saturday in four years.

Highlighting all the stats, Smith heaped praise on Caitlin Clark for taking the decision to sit out.

“I applaud what Caitlin Clark is doing. She’s putting the WNBA first.”

Rather than trying to bolster the NBA's ailing ratings, Clark is focusing on her own league and the women who play in it.

Stephen A. emphasized that, given NBA players' terrible performance throughout All-Star Weekend, WNBA players should matter more, period. The veteran sportscaster stressed how NBA players work harder during offseason workouts than they do during the league's midseason festivities. Meanwhile, WNBA players put out effort in each and every competition.
