The Indiana Fever unveiled their highly anticipated 2025 schedule on Monday afternoon, marking a pivotal season for the team. Opening the season on May 17 against the Chicago Sky, the Fever will face their Midwest rivals five times throughout the regular season. The schedule also features a five-game homestand in July, along with three road trips to the West Coast and their first-ever matchup with the expansion Golden State Valkyries on June 19.
Changes for 2025: More Games and New Opportunities
For the first time, all WNBA teams will play 44 regular season games, an increase from 40 games in the previous year. The Fever, coming off a 2020 season and their first playoff appearance since 2016, are looking to build on their success. The team has also brought in a new head coach, Stephanie White, a familiar face in the WNBA and an Indiana native, who will be instrumental in leading the Fever in 2025.
Opening the Season with a Rivalry
Indiana’s season opener against the Chicago Sky on May 17 sets the stage for a thrilling start. This rivalry has already generated significant buzz, with Caitlin Clark of the Fever and Angel Reese of the Sky — the No. 1 and No. 7 picks of the 2024 WNBA Draft, respectively — making their professional debuts. Clark, who had a standout season, was awarded 67 out of 68 Rookie of the Year votes, while Reese made waves with impressive records, including a WNBArecord 15 consecutive doubledoubles. The Fever will play Chicago five times in total during the regular season, with games scheduled for May 17, August 9, and September 5 in Indianapolis, and June 7 and July 26 in Chicago.
No1 2024 vs No1 2025
The Fever will also have a chance to face off against Paige Bueckers, the likely No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft, who is heading to the Dallas Wings. Bueckers, a standout UConn point guard, brings exceptional skills, including over 50% shooting throughout her college career and a National Player of the Year award as a freshman. Her potential matchup against Clark, both talented point guards, promises to be one of the most exciting storylines of the 2025 season. The Fever will play the Wings four times: June 27 and August 1 in Dallas, and July 13 and August 12 in Indianapolis.
Stephanie White's Return to Connecticut
The 2025 season holds special significance for Stephanie White, the Fever’s new head coach, as she faces off against her former team, the Connecticut Sun. White had a successful tenure with the Sun, leading them to the playoff semifinals in both seasons she was at the helm. After leaving Connecticut to be closer to her family in Indiana, White brings a wealth of experience to the Fever. Connecticut, which is now looking for a new coach and has multiple free agents, will face Indiana in four games this season. The Fever will host the Sun on May 30 and June 17, while traveling to Connecticut on July 15 and August 17. The July 15 game has been relocated to TD Garden in Boston, offering a much larger venue than Mohegan Sun Arena.
Can the Fever Compete in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup?
The Fever have historically struggled in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup, the league’s in season tournament, but 2025 could bring a change. Each team plays one game against conference opponents between June 1 and June 17, with the top team in each conference facing off in the championship on July 1. Indiana had a competitive 2024 campaign, finishing 32 in Commissioner’s Cup play, and with several key players returning, they have an opportunity to improve upon that record. However, the reigning champions, the New York Liberty, will be a tough opponent for the Fever, as they have defeated Indiana three times in the past season.
