Amid ongoing discussions about Ishan Kishan's exclusion from the Indian cricket team for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, the star batter posted a video on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram, offering a peek into his daily routine. In the clip, the Mumbai Indians' (MI) wicketkeeper-batter can be seen starting his day with meditation, followed by a visit to the ground where he engages in various physical activities, including running and hurdles exercises.
Recently, it was learnt that Kishan was in Vadodara, training with Hardik Pandya, his new captain at Mumbai Indians. The 25-year-old had requested a break citing mental exhaustion during recently-concluded South Africa tour, which was granted. However, it was revealed that Kishan initially sought to be excused from the T20 series against Australia, which occurred shortly after the World Cup final, but his request was not granted. He was eventually rested for the final two matches but remained with the team. Subsequently, Kishan expressed a desire to take a break during the white-ball segment of the South Africa tour but showed interest in participating in the Test matches. Once again, his request for a break was turned down. The situation escalated after Ishan Kishan was brought to South Africa. When Kishan reiterated his request to be sent back home, the BCCI responded by removing him from the Test squad.
It was also learnt that Kishan had made himself available for the T20Is against Afghanistan, but he was not selected, even though opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was not available for selection.
But right ahead of the first T20I against Afghanistan, head coach Dravid made it clear that the left-handed batter would be considered for national team selection once he is available, but he emphasised that Kishan needs to demonstrate his performance in domestic cricket.
“Ishan Kishan was not available for selection. He requested for a break in South Africa which we agreed to. He has not made himself available for selection and when he does, I am sure he’ll play domestic cricket and make himself available for selection,” Dravid had earlier said.
Since Ishan is not participating in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-2024 season, he is expected to be seen directly in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
