In a landmark achievement, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma etched his name in the record books by becoming the first male cricketer to amass 100 wins in T20 International cricket. This historic moment unfolded as India clinched a 6-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the opening match of their three-game T20I series at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on January 11. Rohit's milestone places him alongside England's Danni Wyatt, who leads with 111 T20I victories, and Australian cricketers Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry, both of whom have also reached the 100-win mark.
This match marked a significant return for Rohit, playing his first white-ball international since the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in November last year. His comeback to T20I cricket after a 14-month break, however, was not as memorable with the bat. A miscommunication with opening partner Shubman Gill led to Rohit’s early dismissal by run-out, his first T20I appearance since India's semi-final loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup against England.

Afghanistan set a competitive target of 159 runs, thanks to a robust performance from their seasoned all-rounder, Mohammad Nabi. In response, India’s chase was anchored by Shivam Dube and Jitesh Sharma. Dube played a crucial unbeaten knock of 60 runs from 40 balls, hitting five boundaries and two sixes, while Jitesh contributed a swift 31 off 20 balls. Their partnership enabled India to achieve the target comfortably with six wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare.
The victory in Mohali gave India a 1-0 lead in the T20I series, with the second match scheduled at Holkar Stadium in Indore on January 14. Rohit's milestone of 100 T20I wins highlights his exceptional leadership skills and his crucial role in India's success in the shortest format of the game. This achievement adds another feather to the cap of one of cricket's most celebrated captains.
