Australia stand-in captain Steve Smith picked up form in the final Ashes Test against England and played a sensational knock of 138. Both him and Travis Head registered hundreds as the Baggy Greens posted a mammoth total of 567 in their first innings. Smith had remained unbeaten on 129 as the third day of the match came to an end and continued to bat on Day 4 as well.
Though he only managed to score nine runs more before being dismissed by Josh Tongue, it was enough to see him become the player with the most international runs against England. The 36-year-old has now scored 5094 runs against the opposition in 90 matches and has left the legendary Sir Don Bradman behind, who had hit 5028 runs in 37 matches.

Coming to the ongoing Ashes series, Smith hadn't been able to perform well in the three matches that he had played before the Sydney Test. He had only scored 136 runs in six innings, but turned the tables around with the hundred at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). With this superb knock, Smith continued his love affair with the venue and cracked his fifth ton there. Only Ricky Ponting has more hundreds than him at the SCG with six.
