Rishabh Pant is on the verge of a major milestone in Test cricket. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter now sits just five sixes away from overtaking New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum on the all-time list of most sixes in the format.

According to the latest tallies during India’s ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka, Pant has 103 sixes from only 90 innings. McCullum finished his career with 107 sixes in 176 innings, while England’s Ben Stokes leads the overall charts with 138. Pant’s rapid climb has been one of the standout stories of the series.

Earlier in the first Test in Galle, he became the first Indian and the fastest batter in history to reach 100 Test sixes, achieving the landmark in fewer than 5,000 balls faced, well clear of previous benchmarks set by Adam Gilchrist and others.
The aggressive left-hander has continued to clear the ropes in Colombo, moving past Gilchrist into sole third place on the all-time list. With Stokes long retired and McCullum’s total within touching distance, Pant looks set to rewrite more record books if his free-scoring form continues.
The 28-year-old’s fearless approach has already made him one of the most entertaining and effective middle-order batters in modern Test cricket. Fans will be watching closely to see how quickly he can close the five-six gap on McCullum as it remains to be seen.
