Australia continued their winning streak in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle by defeating England in the Ashes opener. The Perth Test came to a conclusion in just two days after Australia completely dominated with the bat in their second innings and chased down the 205-run target in just 28.2 overs. Travis Head was the star of the show and played an incredible knock of 123 runs from just 83 deliveries and was assisted well by Marnus Labuschagne, who also played a fine knock of 51 runs.
The opening pair of Head and Jake Weatherald had provided the team with a strong start to the chase thanks to their 75-run partnership. It was a stand where the former was clearly the aggressor while the latter gave him great support from the other end. However, it was the 117-run partnership between Head and Labuschagne that ensured Australia's win and got them a 1-0 lead in the series.
