BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that Duleep Trophy 2026 will now be played at Chepauk

Earlier Duleep Trophy 2026 final was to be played at CoE

In an effort to bring spectators closer to the action, the BCCI has officially relocated the 2026-27 Duleep Trophy final from Bengaluru's Centre of Excellence (CoE) to Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Scheduled to run from September 6 to 10, the venue swap for the marquee red-ball fixture was made specifically so fans could experience the tournament's centerpiece event in person.

Chepauk to host Duleep Trophy 2026 final for spectators' engagement

Highlighting the stature of the championship, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia noted that the legacy and high caliber of cricket played in the Duleep Trophy deserve a full stadium atmosphere. He explained that the decision was necessary because spectator access is strictly prohibited at the CoE facility due to legal and government land-use constraints that the board must honor.

“There are certain restrictions regarding crowd attendance at the CoE, and we felt it was appropriate to move the final to a venue where fans can attend and be part of the occasion,” Saikia said in a statement.

By transferring the summit clash to Chepauk, the board ensures the final is played in a setting suited for its importance, allowing local supporters to fill the stands and create a fitting backdrop for the domestic season's premier red-ball conclusion.

All early-stage matches of the tournament will proceed at the Centre of Excellence starting August 23, featuring quarter-final clashes between East Zone and Northeast Zone alongside North Zone versus West Zone. Stars such as Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Shami, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are set to feature in these opening rounds. Meanwhile, South Zone and Central Zone have bypassed the opening fixtures, advancing directly to the semi-finals scheduled at the same venue on August 30.

To expand its reach, the BCCI is elevating media coverage across the board. Fans can stream every fixture live, with selective television broadcasts scheduled for a quarter-final, a semi-final, and the Chennai final.

The CoE continues to build its resume as a high-volume host, having recently staged top-tier red-ball and white-ball cricket. Its track record includes South Africa A's remarkable 417-run Fourth-innings chase against India A, alongside the knockout rounds of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where Vidarbha secured the title over Saurashtra by 38 runs. Central Zone returns to the facility as defending champions, having defeated South Zone by six wickets in last year's Bengaluru final.
