In a bizarre incident during the Pakistan vs Bangladesh Asia Cup 2023 clash, one of the floodlights at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore stopped working which led to a stoppage of more than 20 minutes.

The incident took place after the fifth over was bowled in Pakistan’s run chase. The players waited a while for the floodlight to turn back on but eventually left the field. Meanwhile, the groundsmen and the on-field umpires had a conversation.

Pakistan openers were sitting in the dugout during the break whereas Bangladesh players had walked back to the dressing room. The play resumed over 25 minutes after the floodlight went off. During the faux pas, the spectators at the Gaddafi Stadium took their phones out and turned on the flashlight.

This is not the first time issues with floodlights have interrupted the game. Earlier this year, with the fireworks at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 opening ceremony, the floodlight caught fire which led to a 30-minute delay.

It is to be noted that this is the last match of Asia Cup 2023 on Pakistan soil. The rest of the matches will be played in Sri Lanka at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first. Naseem Shah struck with the first ball and dismissed makeshift opener Mehidy Hasan Miraz for a golden duck. The top-order collapsed and Bangladesh were reduced to 47/4 in the 10th over.

Skipper Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim shared a 108-run partnership for the fifth wicket Shakib scored 53 whereas Rahim scored 64. After the two departed, Bangladesh were bowled out for 193 in 38.4 overs.

Haris Rauf took four wickets whereas Naseem took three wickets. Shaheen Afridi, Faheem Ashraf, and Iftikhar Ahmed picked up one wicket each. Pakistan pacers accounted for nine wickets, their second-best in the Asia Cup 2023 so far.
