Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest to 13,000 runs in ODI cricket. Kohli reached the milestone from his 267th ODI innings 54 less than Tendulkar. The 34-year-old became the fifth batter to complete 13,000 runs in the format.

Interestingly, Tendulkar completed 13,000 ODI runs against Pakistan as well. He reached the milestone in 2004 at Rawalpindi. Apart from Kohli and Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sanath Jayasuriya are the three other batters to achieve the rare feat.

Kohli reached the milestone with his 77th international hundred. He reached his century from 84 balls in the 48th over of the innings. Kohli broke another record of Tendulkar's. He became the fastest to 77 international centuries from 561 innings compared to Tendulkar (593 innings).

Starting his innings on the reserve day after scoring eight runs on September 10, Kohli took on Pakistan bowlers and shared a game-changing partnership with KL Rahul at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

This is Kohli's fourth ODI century at the venue. He equalled former South African opener Hashim Amla's record for most ODI centuries at a venue. Amla has hit four ODI centuries at Centurion.

Kohli and Rahul completed 1,000 runs as a pair in the format during their 233-run partnership for the third wicket. They broke the record for the highest partnership in the history of the ODI Asia Cup. The previous record belonged to Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez, Nasir Jamshed who shared a 224-run stand against India in Mirpur in 2012.

Kohli finished the innings with a six off Faheem Ashraf to help India post a mammoth total of 356/2, the fourth-highest innings total at the venue. He scored 122 runs from 94 balls including nine fours and three sixes. On the other end, Rahul remained unbeaten for 111 from 106 deliveries including 12 fours and two sixes.
