Ahead of the 3rd Test against Australia in Indore, Team India captain Rohit Sharma disagreed with a statement made by former skipper Virat Kohli in 2019. Four years ago, Kohli made an interesting remark that garnered a ton of attention. Kohli, who was the Indian captain in 2019, had opined that Test cricket should be 'played across five centres' in India.

"We've been discussing this for a long time now, and in my opinion, we should have five Test centres, period," Kohli had said in 2019.

"I mean, I agree (with) state associations and rotation and giving games and all that, that is fine for T20 and one-day cricket, but Test cricket, teams coming to India should know, 'we're going to play at these five centres, these are the pitches we're going to expect, these are the kind of people that will come to watch, crowds'," he added.

The current Indian captain Rohit asked for his opinion on Kohli's 'five Tests centres' suggestion and the former didn't agree with the latter's remark.

"If you want to promote Test cricket, it should be played in every part of the country and not restrict it to just a handful of big centres," said Rohit.

Since 2000, a total of 18 stadiums have hosted at least one Test match in India. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata have hosted the most Tests (12) in India since 2000. Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali has hosted 11 Tests while Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai have hosted 10 Tests each.
