Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin stole the show on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on September 19 (Thursday). He smashed his 6th International Test century and helped the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team recover from an early slump and reach a strong position. During this knock, Ashwin unlocked many new milestones.
Ashwin joins the elite list with Kapil Dev and Ian Botham
The star Indian player joined another epic list with legendary Kapil Dev following his stunning knock against Bangladesh on the opening day of the first Test. He became the fifth player in history to have two centuries and two fifers at a single venue in Test cricket. Prior to him Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, Chris Cairns, and Gary Sobers had reached this milestone as well. In fact, both Dev and Ashwin holds this record for the Chennai ground. However, Ashwin got four fifers at the Chepauk and Kapil only 2.

Team India lost three early wickets as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to the dugout after scoring just 6 runs each and Shubman Gill could not even score a single run and got our for a duck. Then a crucial 62-run stand between Yashaswi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant revived the Indian innings. After Pant's dismissal, Jaiswal joined a 48-run partnership with KL Rahul. However, the team again lost couple of quick wickets and got into a spot of bother.
Although, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja came to save the day. Ashwin's 102 and Jadeja's 86 brought India back into the game. They 195-run unbeaten stand has put Indian back into the box seat. Both of them helped India post 339/6 at Stumps Day 1. They will be resuming the play for Indian on Day 2.
