India's Test season kicked off with a resounding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the series opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This win gave India a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Ravichandran Ashwin played a pivotal role in India's success, and Virat Kohli's heartwarming gesture towards the veteran cricketer captured the attention of many.
In the first innings, Ashwin rescued India from a precarious position at 144/6, scoring his sixth Test century. His 113-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja for the seventh wicket was a crucial turning point in the match. Ashwin's performance with the ball was equally impressive. In the fourth innings, he claimed a six-wicket haul, securing India's dominant victory.

In a heartwarming gesture that quickly circulated online, Virat Kohli was seen approaching Ravichandran Ashwin and bowing down to him after the veteran spinner dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Kohli's action came as Ashwin was being congratulated by his teammates.

Ashwin's exceptional performance in Chennai set a new record in cricket history. He became the first player to achieve the feat of scoring a century and taking a five-wicket haul at the same venue in a Test match more than once. Ashwin had previously accomplished this remarkable milestone during the second Test between India and England in 2021.
Not just this, Ashwin 37th five-wicket haul in Test cricket also brought him on par with the legendary Shane Warne, who also finished his career with 37 five-wicket hauls. Remarkably, Ashwin reached this milestone in his 101st Test, while Warne played 145 Tests.
Ashwin's feat also surpassed New Zealand great Richard Hadlee, who had 36 five-wicket hauls to his name. However, the Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan remains the undisputed leader in this category, holding a substantial lead of 30 more five-wicket hauls compared to Ashwin.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, making his return to Test cricket after a nine-month absence, struggled to find his form. He was dismissed for scores of 6 and 17 in the two innings. In the first innings, Kohli edged a delivery from Hasan Mahmud to wicketkeeper Litton Das. In his second innings, he was trapped in front of the stumps by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Despite replays showing that Kohli had edged the delivery, he opted not to review the decision.
