A father-son duo wreaked mayhem with their insane batting in the Australian Club cricket and made mockery of opponent bowlers with their record-breaking knocks. The latest round of grade cricket in Australia featured a unique matchup in the Section 8 Claim This Cup of the Adelaide & Suburban Association. Morphettville Park and Coromandel's fifth XIs faced off at the Ascot Park Primary School ground, providing the setting for a remarkable family milestone on the pitch.

Son’s 402 and father’s 175 power 590-run carnage

Leading the charge for Coromandel in the first innings were the father and son opening duo, Darren and Sam Cheek. Darren took the initial strike and set a brisk pace early on, striking two boundaries in the opening over from Kalani Wiraga. He followed up with a four and a six in the second over, while Sam found his rhythm shortly after, dispatching his first boundary in the fourth over of the innings.

Although Darren was the early aggressor, Sam quickly found his stride and eventually overtook his father’s scoring rate. Sam was the first to reach a half-century, requiring only 29 balls to get there, while Darren followed suit shortly after by reaching the 50-run mark in 37 deliveries. Together, the pair cruised past a 100-run partnership, keeping the Morphettville Park bowlers under constant pressure.

The milestones continued to fall as Sam reached a century in just 56 balls, punctuated by his seventh six of the match. Not to be outdone, Darren maintained a solid tempo and brought up his own hundred off 64 balls. However, once both batters had secured their centuries, Sam shifted into an even higher gear, beginning an aggressive onslaught against the opposition.

Sam’s acceleration after reaching his century was nothing short of extraordinary. He surged from 100 to 150 in a mere 17 deliveries, fueled by a barrage of six sixes. Maintaining this incredible momentum, he reached a double century in just 87 balls. The onslaught only intensified from there, as he required only 22 more deliveries to reach the 300-run mark, a stretch that included 13 sixes and a perfect over where he dispatched Darcy Lane for six consecutive maximums. Although his pace dipped slightly toward the end, he still managed to move from 300 to 400 in just 26 balls.

Father Darren no less, hammers 108-ball 175

By the close of the innings, Sam remained unbeaten with a staggering 402 runs off 137 deliveries, a knock that featured 30 boundaries and 42 sixes. His father, Darren, provided steadfast support at the other end, finishing on 175* from 108 balls. While Darren’s strike rate appeared modest next to his son's, it was a highly impressive feat for a regular in over-60s cricket. Together, the pair batted through the entire 40 overs without losing a single wicket, posting a massive total of 590-0 for Coromandel.

Faced with an impossible target, Morphettville Park never seriously threatened the chase. They focused on batting out their overs, eventually finishing with a steady 146-3. Capping off their dominant day, the father-son duo also shared the new ball; Sam delivered a tight spell of 8-2-11-0, while Darren mirrored that economy with figures of 6-2-11-1 to complete a comprehensive victory.
