'Don’t you have any other question to ask me apart from Shakib Al Hasan': Bangladesh's Taijul Islam fumes over reporter

Taskin Ahmed's injury paved the way for Taijul Islam, who took no time to prove his mettle with the ball as he bowled a superb spell of 6/135 in the first innings of the ongoing second and final Test against South Africa. The left-arm spinner however has struggled for a place in playing XI in overseas. And the reason behind it is the presence of another left-arm spinner and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan despite Taijul's success as subcontinent spinner. After his impressive performance with the bowl in an interview session, Taijul was questioned about how he intends to fill the void left by Shakib’s absence in the side. The question didn't go down well with the spinner as Taijul was seen irritated while answering the needless question.

Taijul fumes over reporter on being compared to Shakib Al Hasan

After his impressive performance with the bowl in an interview session, Taijul was questioned about how he intends to fill the void left by Shakib’s absence in the side. The question didn't go down well with the spinner as Taijul was seen irritated while answering the needless question.

“Don’t you have any other question to ask me apart from it?,” said Taijul in a press meet ahead of the South African tour in Dhaka. “Probably adding Shakib bhai’s name is more saleable,” he further added.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh chief selector had revealed that the three fast bowler strategy was not the only reason behind Tajiul’s constant exclusion but it was about batting deep as well. He added that Taijul could be accommodated if Mehidy Hasan can bat at seven in overseas conditions.

“I don’t think Taijul is not making the Test XI because we are playing three pace bowlers. Rather what I feel is that we are playing eight batsmen, which is why he is not included,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Saturday

“If we put Miraj (Mehidy Hasan) at seven and bring Taijul at eight than we can accommodate three pace bowlers in the away Test along with the left-arm spinner (when Shakib is not around),” he added.

Bangladesh in trouble

As far as match is concerned, South Africa bowled out Bangladesh for 217 in the first innings of the second Test to take a 238 run lead on Sunday. Veteran campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim was the top-scorer for Bangladesh with 51 runs to his name. Tamim Iqbal and Yasir Ali too got starts but managed to score 47 and 46 respectively as South Africa are in a prime position in the match. For the hosts, Wiaan Mulder and Simon Harmer picked three wickets each.
