During the opening game of the latest edition of Big Bash League (BBL) on December 13 (Tuesday) something bizarre happened that left onlookers, including commentators, awe-struck. The season-opener was played between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder, a game that saw the latter clinch a thrilling one-wicket win in a low-scoring game.

The bizarre incident transpired during the second ball of Thunder's innings bowled by Stars' international recruit Trent Boult. The veteran left-arm pacer strayed on Thunder's batter Matthew Gikes' pads and got tucked away towards the fine-leg region. The left-handed batter failed to keep the ball on the ground and he also didn't succeed in getting the required elevation to get the ball over the short fine-leg fielder's reach.

The short fine-leg region was manned by substitute Brody Couch, who then produced a circus moment and completed a bizarre catch. Couch crouched low to catch the ball on the first attempt but couldn't succeed. He then juggled the ball not once but twice before somehow managing to maintain a firm grip.

Meanwhile, Stars ended up losing the game by a solitary wicket despite the best efforts of their bowlers. It was the Stars' batters who failed to do a decent job while batting first as the team could only manage a paltry score of 122/8 in 20 overs. Thunder batters almost made a meal of a modest target but managed to complete a hard-fought win.
