Mumbai Indians are going through major changes ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League. The IPL franchise, as per a report in the Times of India, are expected to retain Mahela Jayawardene as head coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League season.

The report further stated that the Sri Lankan coach, who rejoined the franchise ahead of the 2025 campaign, is likely to continue after the team’s disappointing 2026 season, in which they finished ninth with just four wins. However, this might be his last year as the head coach of the team, as per TOI.

The recent development so far indicates that the franchise is reluctant to make major changes at this stage of the current cycle. The former announcement about the extension is expected to be published next month.
Meanwhile, there has been no significant movement on a potential trade involving captain Hardik Pandya, despite interest from other teams. Discussions are underway between the franchise and Pandya about the possibility of him remaining with Mumbai Indians next season without the captaincy.
Additionally, as per the aforementioned source, former captain Rohit Sharma is actively involved in talks surrounding both the coaching and leadership setup, while star batter Suryakumar Yadav is not expected to leave the side at present. A formal announcement regarding the coaching staff is anticipated in the coming weeks.
