Rohit Sharma shatters Virat Kohli's record to become fastest Indian captain to notch this massive milestone

Rohit Sharma-led Team India began their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a resounding six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20.

Rohit Sharma achieved a mighty milestone as India successfully chased down the 229-run target. Shubman Gill's unbeaten century, a masterful 101 off 129 balls, anchored the chase, while KL Rahul contributed a crucial 41 runs off 47 balls.

Shubman Gill and KL Rahul formed a crucial, unbroken 87-run partnership for the fifth wicket, ultimately securing India's victory.  Mohammed Shami also played a pivotal role, taking a five-wicket haul in his first ICC event appearance since the 2019 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the fastest Indian captain to reach 100 wins.  He achieved this milestone in just 138 matches, surpassing the previous record held by Virat Kohli, who took 152 matches to reach the same number of victories.

Rohit Sharma has cemented his position as one of India's most successful captains, now holding a significant lead over Virat Kohli in terms of wins. His rise to captaincy began in 2017 when he was appointed India's white-ball vice-captain.  Following the 2021 World Cup, Rohit took over the T20I captaincy from Virat Kohli.  In December 2021, the selection committee removed Virat from the ODI captaincy and appointed Rohit in his place.  Virat then relinquished the Test captaincy a month later, paving the way for Rohit to become India's all-format captain in early 2022.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting holds the overall record for the fastest captain to achieve 100 wins, reaching the milestone in just 134 matches. Rohit Sharma occupies second place on this prestigious list, followed by Steve Waugh, who reached 100 wins in 149 matches. Virat Kohli sits in fifth position.
