India's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who scored the winning runs quashed rumours of his retirement after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final triumph. After an economical spell including the wicket of wicketkeeper-batter Tom Latham, Jadeja walked in to bat in the 48th over of the run chase. He scored nine runs from six balls as India won the match with four wickets in hand and an over to spare. During the final, there were rumours floating around that Jadeja will draw curtains on his ODI career but the all-rounder clarified via an Instagram story.
'No unnecessary rumours, thanks,' wrote Jadeja.
After the win, Jadeja opened up on his batting position. He lauded KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya for the crucial partnership under pressure.
"My batting number is such that I'm either a hero or a zero at the end of the game. It was important that KL and Hardik did well in that partnership, them scoring runs was a game changing moment. The wicket wasn't easy going into batting at first," he told the broadcasters.
Jadeja considers himself lucky
Jadeja opened up on being a part of three ICC title wins starting with 2013 edition of Champions Trophy.
"It's an important tournament, playing for India and winning the Champions Trophy for the country is big, you do regret when you don't be part of winning teams after having played for so many years. But I'm lucky that I've managed to be fit enough and performed at the highest level in winning the two tournaments, the 2024 T20 WC and the Champions Trophy now," he added.
Jadeja won the 'Player of the match' in the final of the 2013 edition. More than a decade later, he won the 'Fielder of the match' medal for cutting down the angles and saving runs with his electrifying presence outside the 30-yard circle.
Rohit says noone is retiring
Last year, Jadeja announced his retirement from T20Is alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados to end the ICC trophy drought. However, Indian skipper Rohit made it clear that noone is retiring after the Champions Trophy 2025.
