Shubman Gill has announced himself in County Cricket with his maiden century in third game for Glamorgan. After missing out on a century on his County debut by just eight runs, Gill got to three figures from 123 deliveries against Sussex in the first session of Day 2.

Gill helped Glamorgan dominate on a gloomy Day 1 which was interrupted by rain. From his overnight score of 91, he scored 28 more runs on Day 2. He lost his wicket in the 54th over to off-spinner Jack Carson.ย

The 23-year-old scored 119 at an impressive strike rate of 85.61. He hit a total of 16 fours and two sixes during his stay at the crease. The biggest partnership he shared was for the fourth wicket with Billy Root. In the 87-run partnership, he did the bulk of scoring.
ย
Gill attacked Sussex bowlers and did not shy away from taking the aerial route. He even hit an unorthodox uppercut off Pakistan bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf on Day 1โs play.ย

In the previous game at Lordโs Gill, he registered scores of 22 and 11 at Lordโs against Middlesex. He also posted one of the videos of his dismissals where the ball seemed to go down the leg side and miss the stumps.
ย
The only other Indian to score a century for Glamorgan in County cricket is former skipper Sourav Ganguly. The God of offside scored one century and eight half-centuries for the County side in two seasons. Ganguly also played for Northamptonshire and Lancashire.

Interestingly, Gillโs maiden ODI hundred came in 2022 as well. Against minnows Zimbabwe, Gill scored an explosive 130 at Harare. In the series, he also scored 82 not out in first ODI opening the innings alongside Shikhar Dhawan.
