Huge setback for West Indies, star player ruled out of 2nd ODI vs India due to calf injury, 19-year-old may open

West Indies have suffered a huge setback ahead of the second ODI of the series against India as their in-form opener Justin Greaves has been ruled out due to a calf injury. Greaves sustained the injury during the ODI series opener where he scored a century in a losing cause.

So far, it is not clear whether Greaves will play in the third and final ODI of the series which will be played on October 3.

Greaves often needed medical attention on the fielding during his 101-run knock off 108 balls. He limped but pushed through the pain to score a century. He did not walk out to field during India's run chase.

Who will open for West Indies in 2nd ODI?

19-year-old Jewel Andrew is likely to move up the order and open the innings. Andrew had been dismissed for a golden duck in the series opener by left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

Meanwhile, Sherfane Rutherford is likely to play in the second ODI after missing the first ODI due to personal reasons.

Will West Indies make more changes?

Apart from the forced change, West Indies may be inclined to include their young left-arm wrist spinner Vitel Lawes in the side. Captain Shai Hope had gone with left-arm orthodox spinner Gudakesh Motie in Thiruvanathapuram. Motie had went for 66 runs in his quota of 10 overs and failed to take a wicket.

Also, it is yet to be seen whether Shamar Joseph plays ahead of Matthew Forde or Roston Chase. Forde was dismissed for a single-digit score and was wicketless in the five overs he bowled. Alzarri Joseph took a beating as well, conceding 81 runs from nine overs. His only wicket was Rohit Sharma. Batting down the order, Chase got a start but was dismissed for a 32-ball 24 failing to help West Indies post a big total. However, he bowled full quota of 10 overs and got the wicket of captain Shubman Gill.
