Yashasvi Jaiswal breezes into top 10 in Test Rankings

Team India's new run-machine Jaiswal has amassed 655 runs across four Test matches in the series against England, equalling Virat Kohli's record for runs in a Test series against England, with the potential to surpass the cricket icon's milestone in the upcoming Dharamsala Test.

Jaiswal kicked off with a dynamic 80 runs in the first Test against England in Hyderabad. However, India ended up losing the opener but Jaiswal's knock stood out as he was gearing up for a run-fest in the matches to come. His monumental 209 in Vizag was instrumental in securing India's victory, and he continued his formidable performance with another double century in Rajkot Test, steering the home team ahead in the series.

Jaiswal's big milestone

Consequently, Jaiswal joined the elite list of Indian batsmen, alongside Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli, to hit consecutive double centuries in Test cricket.

Before the Rajkot Test, Jaiswal was positioned 29th in the Test rankings. His pivotal double century in that match propelled him to rank 15, marking one of the most significant climbs in recent memory. Following the third Test, he advanced another three places, landing him at the 12th position.

Though Jaiswal did not hit a century in the fourth Test in Ranchi, he made substantial contributions of 73 and 37. Remarkably, there hasn't been a single Test in this series where Jaiswal failed to score at least a half-century. Another upward adjustment of two places in the rankings saw Jaiswal breaking into the top 10 in the Test format for the first time, becoming the second Indian, alongside Virat Kohli, to achieve this feat.

Virat Kohli improves in Test Rankings

Meanwhile, Kohli moved to eighth place from ninth despite skipping the ongoing Test series against England due to personal reasons. Currently, the veteran New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson leads the rankings with 870 points, with Joe Root (799 points) and Steve Smith (789 points) following in second and third places, respectively.
