Yashasvi Jaiswal said that he doesn't regret missing out on a century.

Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed no regret over missing a deserved century on Day 2 of the first Test against England on January 25. Yashasvi Jaiswal made it very clear that his primary goal is to contribute in the team's victory rather than chase individual achievements. The star Indian opener scored a spellbinding 80 before getting dismissed by Joe Root at the start of the second day in the first Test against England, leaving India in a commanding position at 421/7 and leading by 175 runs in response to England's 246.

Jaiswal started the day aggressively, hitting Root for a four, but was quickly dismissed by the ex-England captain with a caught and bowled.

“It could have been pleasing if I could have scored a hundred, but I think my thinking there was to score runs, and I was quite positive in my mind and building the innings. But I think it (the knock) was good. I think I would have played well, but it happens in cricket. It’s fine; if I make a mistake I am learning from my mistakes,” 22-year-old said at the post-match press conference.

In his debut Test match on Indian soil, Jaiswal said that the ambience of playing at home is different from the experience in other countries.

“This is my first Test match in India and I was thinking of contributing and doing well for my team. When I was playing in the West Indies and South Africa, it was quite different and even the environment was different. But I was really enjoying all the places, and it is always a proud moment and honour whenever I go and play for my country,” Jaiswal added.

India hold a strong advantage in the match and aim to dismiss England to clinch a comprehensive victory and gain a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series. Jaiswal, who made his Test debut against the West Indies last year, commented on the pitch conditions, noting that it favors spin bowling and makes playing shots challenging.

“Wicket is spinning at the moment, and it is not a ‘patta’ belter of a wicket. There is help for spinners,” Jaiswal concluded.
