Vaibhav Suryavanshi opens up on getting inspiration from Shubman Gill

Suryavanshi scored a magnificent 52-ball hundred against England

14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again made headlines due to his incredible batting skills in India U-19's ODI series against England. In the fourth game of the five-match series, the left-hand batter smashed a magnificent 52-ball hundred to create the world record of scoring the fastest hundred in the histsory of youth ODIs. He left behind Pakistan's Kamran Ghulam, who had scored a 53-ball ton against England's U-19 side back in 2013.

Suryavanshi would eventually get dismissed after playing a fiery inning of 143 runs from just 78 deliveries, including 13 boundaries and 10 maximums. He formed an incredible partnership of 219 runs alongside Vihaan Malhotra, who also played a terrific knock of 149 to carry India to a mammoth total of 363/9 in 50 overs. In reply, England got bundled out for 308 as the visitors triumphed by 55 runs, sealing the series 3-1 before the final match.

Suryavanshi got inspired from Gill's double-hundred agaianst England

After the victory, Suryavanshi revealed that he had gotten inspiration from Shubman Gill after he saw the India captain's incredible knock of 269 against England in the second Test. Notably, the 14-year-old was present in the stands at Edgbaston when Gill brought up his first-ever double-hundred in red-ball cricket.

"I got a lot of inspiration from him because I saw the game. Even after scoring 100 and 200, he kept at it and took the team forward," Suryavasnhi said in a video posted by BCCI on X.

Suryavanshi also remarked that he could have stayed longer at the crease and could have played an even bigger knock. He added that he will try to score 200 in the next match which is set to be played on July 7.

"I could have made it longer because I had a lot of time. I had 20 overs left after that so I could have made the inning longer. There was a shot where I couldn't give my 100% and that is way I got out," Suryavanshi stated.

'I will try to score 200 in the next match and will also try to play the full 50 overs. The more runs I score, the more the team will benefit so I will try to play the full inning in the next match. That is my focus now," he added.

Meanwhile, Suryavanshi has been in terrific form in the ongoing series against England. The teenage sensation has registered impressive scores of 48, 45, and 86 in the first, second and third ODI respectively. It will be interesting to see if the left-hand batter will be able to continue his fine form in the final match of the series.
