While coffers opened for Virender Sehwag's elder son Aaryavir Sehwag in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction, fate hated to intervene for the younger one. In the action-packed DPL 2025 auction, Aaryavir Sehwag landed a jackpot deal of Rs 8 lakh from Central Delhi Kings. However, the former India's explosive batter's younger son, Vedant Sehwag, went unsold as he failed to attract the bidders. Both Aaryavir and Vedant have been involved in junior level cricket for Delhi. Vedant's name was presented first in the auction, but unfortunately, he did not receive any bids and remained unsold.

Shortly after, Aaryavir's name was announced, sparking a competitive bidding war among the franchises. Ultimately, Central Delhi Kings successfully acquired the opening batsman's services for a substantial amount of Rs 8 lakh.
Aaryaver, who represents Delhi in Under-19 cricket, has garnered attention for his batting exploits. In the year 2024, he came remarkably close to scoring a triple century for the Delhi state team. Opening the batting for Delhi, Aaryaveer played a memorable innings of 297 runs against Meghalaya. He narrowly missed the opportunity to win a Ferrari, which was offered as a prize for surpassing his father's highest Test score of 319 runs.
On the other hand, Simarjeet Singh emerged as the most expensive player in the DPL 2025 players’ auction, surpassing the bid for Digvesh Rathi. These players, along with others, will be joining teams such as North Delhi Strikers, Central Delhi Kings, Purani Dilli, West Delhi Lions, East Delhi Riders, and South Delhi Superstarz for what promises to be a more competitive and thrilling season of the T20 league.
Simarjeet Singh attracted interest from various franchises, including South Delhi, North Delhi, and West Delhi Lions. The bidding war eventually led to a price of Rs 39 lakh, and he was ultimately secured by Central Delhi Kings. Digvesh Rathi, with a base price of Rs 10 lakh, also generated intense bidding between Purani Dilli and South Delhi Superstarz. He was eventually sold to South Delhi Superstarz for rs 38 lakh, making him another one of the auction's most valuable acquisitions.
Looking at their playing records, Simarjeet Singh has taken 11 wickets in 14 IPL matches, maintaining an average of 36.36 and an economy rate of 10.00. Digvesh Rathi, who recently made his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025, has claimed 14 wickets in 13 matches with an average of 30.64 and an economy rate of 8.25.
For the DPL 2025 auction, each franchise had a budget of Rs 1.5 crore, from which the costs of retained players were deducted. An interesting aspect of the auction was the provision for each franchise to use one Right-to-Match (RTM) card, allowing them to retain a player who had received bids from other teams. The player pool for the auction was categorized into three tiers based on experience and age. Category A comprised senior players, including those who have played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or at the state level. Category B included Under-23 and Under-19 cricketers, while Category C consisted of emerging talents under the age of 16. It's important to note that only players registered with the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) were eligible to participate in the auction.
Prior to the auction, some notable retentions were made. East Delhi Riders decided to retain Himmat Singh, their captain who led them to the previous title victory. Purani Dilli secured the services of Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant as a retained player. The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has also announced an expansion of the Delhi Premier League from six to eight teams for the upcoming season, with the addition of two new franchises: Outer Delhi Warriors and New Delhi Tigers.
