It all happened during the seventh over of India's chase, just as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were gaining momentum in pursuit of England's 305-run target. Rohit, who was in excellent form, had already hit one four and three sixes, setting the tone of the match with his aggressive batting. However, his momentum was suddenly interrupted when one of the stadium's light towers malfunctioned, plunging a section of the field into partial darkness. The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has been given 10 days to respond to the notice with their findings.

The sudden floodlight failure caused frustration among players, match officials, and spectators alike. Following a discussion with the umpires, both teams decided to leave the field until the lighting issue was resolved.

This incident has raised concerns about the stadium's infrastructure, especially given that the Barabati Stadium was hosting its first ODI in six years. Officials are now waiting for a thorough report from stadium authorities, explaining the cause of the failure and outlining the steps taken to rectify the problem.

However, despite the interrupting India thrashed England by four wickets in the second ODI to seal the series. India rode on Rohit Sharma's masterful 119 and Shubman Gill's brilliant fifty to chase down the 305-run target with 33 balls to spare.
