Virat Kohli scored just 5 runs in India's 4-wicket win over England in 2nd ODI

Despite his own recent struggles with form, batting maestro Virat Kohli's fun side was once again on display during India versus England's second ODI at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack in Odisha on February 9. Kohli was captured on camera playfully imitating Suryakumar Yadav's chewing gum act in the dugout during the second ODI against England.

The incident occurred during India's chase, while Kohli was relaxing in the pavilion alongside Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and fielding coach T Dilip. As the group enjoyed the match, Kohli stood up from his seat and performed a near-perfect impersonation of Yadav's chewing gum action. His comical expressions drew laughter from the other players present. Right after the act, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill along with other teammates burst into a fit of laughter.

Suryakumar Yadav is known for his characteristic gum-chewing while batting. However, he isn't participating in the ongoing ODI series against England. Suryakumar recently led India to a 4-1 T20I series sweep over England.

Despite Virat Kohli's lighthearted moment in the dressing room, his batting form remains a concern. He entered the field to a warm reception from the Cuttack crowd at Barabati Stadium, with India comfortably positioned at 136/1 in just 16.4 overs. This presented Kohli with an ideal opportunity to score big runs and regain his form, as India were well ahead of the required run rate and Rohit Sharma was batting confidently at the other end.

Unfortunately, Kohli yet again failed to capitalise on the opportunity served as he was dismissed for just 5 runs off 8 balls by legspinner Adil Rashid. Rashid delivered a well-executed slower delivery that turned past Kohli's edge, resulting in a brilliant catch by wicketkeeper Phil Salt.

Virat Kohli's batting debacle

Kohli had missed the first ODI due to a minor knee injury sustained just before the match. Fortunately, the injury proved less serious than initially feared, and he recovered in time for the second ODI.

Despite Kohli's flop show, India defeated England by 4 wickets, thanks to Rohit Sharma's outstanding century. With this India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Kohli's struggles with the bat go a long way. He had a disappointing outing in the home series against Bangladesh which was further extended to Tests against New Zealand. Kohli continued his form slump in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he could only score 192 runs in five Tests at a low average of 21.33.

The batting maestro will look to find his mojo back ahead of Champions Trophy in the third ODI against England which will be played on February 12 in Ahmedabad.
