Highlights:

Bangladesh lost the match against New Zealand by eight wickets.Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan picked up an injury during the match and went for scans.

Bangladesh suffered an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their ODI World Cup match at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Friday, October 13. Shakib-al-Hasan's men failed to defend a target of 246 as Kane Williamson's brigade chased down the total with 43 balls to spare to notch their third consecutive victories. Meanwhile, it was Bangladesh's back-to-back defeat as they lost their last match against England after getting the better of Afghanistan in their opening match.

Meanwhile Shakib Al Hasan gave Bangladesh a major injury scare after being jolted by Kiwis. Bangladesh skipper Shakib picked up a left-quad injury while batting. However he didn't have a good day against New Zealand. He could only score 40 off 51 balls before Lockie Ferguson dismissed him in the 30th over as Bangladesh posted a lowly total of 245/9.

In the absence of Shakib, the stand-in Bangladesh captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, said that Shakib went to have his left quad examined through scans.

The injury occurred during the 29th over of Bangladesh's batting when Shakib seemed to plant his leg awkwardly on the ground while completing a run, taking his score from 23 to 24. Till then, he had scored 24 off 45 balls. However, he changed the gear and reached 40 off 51 balls before Lockie Ferguson got the better of him.

Shakib finished his innings, and then bowled all his ten overs - by the 37th - before leaving the field.

In the post match presentation Najmul Hossain Shanto while giving an update on Shakib's injury said," He is going for his scans. We will know after that. We didn't bat well. We didn't start well. We batted poorly even in the last game in the first 10-15 overs. The wicket looks good. Some bounce with the new ball. We have to bat little responsibly. If we bat a little carefully in the first 10-15, then we can do well. Our pace bowlers did well. I think the biggest improvement has been our fast bowling department. We will have to bat well."
