In a split-second decision, Santner sprang into action, embarking on a rapid backpedal, launching himself forward, and stretching his arm like a telescopic device. In a display of extraordinary athleticism, Santner managed to clutch the ball securely.

New Zealand's innings had a shaky start, as they found themselves in a precarious situation at 110/4 after losing three quick wickets. However, the fortunes of the Kiwis turned when Glenn Phillips and Tom Latham forged a crucial partnership.

 

Phillips displayed his batting prowess by amassing an impressive 71 runs, while Latham contributed 68 runs, providing their team with the foundation needed to achieve a formidable total. Their partnership yielded an impressive 144 runs, ultimately proving to be the turning point of the game. Despite Afghanistan's disciplined bowling efforts, New Zealand maintained a steady scoring rate and managed to post a challenging total of 288/6 within their allotted 50 overs.
