For a brief moment on October 22 (Sunday), the hearts of over a billion Indians sank when Team India captain Rohit Sharma walked off the field after suffering a finger injury while fielding during the ODI World Cup match against New Zealand in Dharamsala. The incident unfolded on the last ball of the 10th over when Daryl Mitchell punched Mohammed Siraj's delivery to mid-off. Rohit, who was stationed at mid-off, slipped while trying to stop the ball and in the process jammed his fingers on the ground.

The Indian skipper appeared in visible pain as he kicked the ball in frustration and hurled abuse which was spotted on camera. Soon after, the 'Hitman' made his way to the dressing room in order to get treatment for his injury.

Rohit came back on the field after getting his hand tapped and for the time he was out of the ground, KL Rahul was the stand-in captain. 

Earlier, Rohit won the toss and elected to field against the Blackcaps. With Hardik Pandya out with injury, Rohit was forced to make two changes. Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami came into the side in place of Hardik and Shardul Thakur.
