Shardul Thakur of India looks on during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup India 2023 between India and Bangladesh at MCA International Stadium on October 19, 2023 in Pune, India.

Highlights:

Shardul Thakur's performance in the ongoing quadrennial competition hasn't been where the pacer himself would have liked it to be.

Former India bowler Dodda Ganesh launched a blistering attack at right-arm fast bowler Shardul Thakur, who is currently part of the Men in Blue's ODI World Cup squad. In a dismissive remark, Ganesh affirmed that on the basis of his bowling, Thakur will struggle to make it to Karnataka's XI in any format. The ex-India cricketer's comments came after Thakur endured another ordinary game with the ball against Bangladesh.

"With due respect to Shardul Thakur, on his bowling alone he would struggle to make it to Karnataka’s playing Xl in any format, let alone India’s," Ganesh said in a tweet on X, formerly Twitter.

Thakur's performance in the ongoing quadrennial competition hasn't been where the pacer himself would have liked it to be. In three matches, the right-arm pacer has bagged two wickets at an economy rate of 6.30. The opposition batters have been aggressive against Thakur and looked to score runs against the 32-year-old paceman as the other Indian bowlers have been tough to score against.

Talking about Thakur's ODI career, the India pacer has played 47 matches for the Men in Blue and bagged 65 wickets at an economy rate of 6.22. He has bagged four wickets in an innings thrice in his ODI career so far.

India in 2023 ODI World Cup so far

Rohit Sharma's brigade has been firing on all cylinders. The team is playing as a unit and the performances thus far have been stupendous. The top order is looking as solid as ever with skipper Rohit and maverick batter Virat Kohli leading the charge while the bowling attack continues to dismantle the opposition's batting line-up with disdain.

After starting the tournament with a win over Australia, the Men in Blue have gone on to register a victory against Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Next up, India will cross swords against New Zealand in Dharamshala on October 22 (Sunday).
