The formidable opening partnership of 130 runs between Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran set the stage for Afghanistan's pursuit of Pakistan's 282-run target. Their synergy was a testament to their team's growing stature in international cricket.

Babar Azam's gesture towards Gurbaz went beyond the competitive spirit of the game. By gifting his bat, Azam acknowledged and celebrated the young talent's pivotal role in Afghanistan's historic victory.

Afghanistan's triumph, achieved with six deliveries remaining, marked their inaugural ODI win against Pakistan. This victory underscores Afghanistan's ascending trajectory in global cricket, with emerging stars like Gurbaz at the forefront. For Gurbaz, Azam's bat will undoubtedly be a treasured keepsake from a game that has immortalised his contribution.

Meanwhile, this defeat leaves Pakistan hanging in the balance with four points and a net run rate of -0.400. The 29-year-old Babar said that the Men in Green still have a decent chance of turning their fortunes around in the tournament. "You never know. It's cricket. Anything can happen. We will try to play our best cricket till the end. There are a lot of matches left, we will try to win all the matches. We will try to overcome our mistakes," he stated.

Currently, Pakistan occupies the fifth position. However, following three consecutive defeats, another setback against South Africa this week could likely jeopardise the 1992 winners' prospects of progressing to the knock-out stages.
