In the game against Sri Lanka, Shakib played a pivotal role, scoring 82 runs from 65 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes, leading his team to a three-wicket victory. Additionally, he managed figures of 2/57 with the ball, earning him the Player of the Match award in the tense encounter.

The controversial skipper courted debate when he appealed for Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews to be dismissed for being 'timed out'. Shakib, a notable figure in international cricket, called for Mathews' dismissal after the latter did not take his position to face the ball within the prescribed two-minute time limit following a wicket's fall.

This action sparked a heated discussion among cricket enthusiasts and analysts, with numerous individuals questioning Shakib's sportsmanship.

He then shed light on the incident during the pre-match press conference and said, "One of our fielders apprised me of the clause, stating that he's out if he doesn't take his guard within the designated time frame. So, I made the appeal to the umpires. They inquired if I intended to retract the appeal. I affirmed my stance, refusing to call him back."

The Tigers, with a record of six losses in eight matches, have been eliminated from the semifinals. However, they remain determined to secure a spot in the Champions Trophy 2025 as they prepare to face the Australians.
