South Africa’s veteran middle-order batter David Miller could not finish the game in T20 World Cup 2024 final. Miller departed on the first ball of the final ball as Suryakumar Yadav took a spectacular catch. After the match, Miller was devastated and was consoled by his wife and teammates. Nearly, a couple of days after the final, Miller expressed his feelings via his Instagram account following which some media outlets inferred that the 35-year-old has retired from T20Is. After a day, Miller responded to rumours and clarified that he is not done with T20Is yet and the best is just around the corner.
"Contrary to some reports, I have NOT retired from T20 International cricket. I will continue to be available to play for the Proteas," Miller wrote in his Instagram story. "The best is yet to come," he added.
Miller was heartbroken after the loss but was proud of his team for raising the bar.
"I am gutted!! Really tough pill to swallow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don't explain how I am feeling. One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit. This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team has the resilience and will keep raising the bar," Miller wrote.
This was the first time a South Africa men’s team reached the final of a World Cup. They were dominated the run chase when Heinrich Klaasen took on Axar Patel in the 15th over. But Hardik Pandya got the wicket of Klaasen in the 17th over and turned the game upside down with the help of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh as India won by seven runs to create history in Barbados.
Miller to return to West Indies in August
Miller is likely to be in action in franchise cricket. He will don the South Africa jersey again when they come back to West Indies for two-Test series followed by three T20Is. All three T20Is will be played at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba Trinidad. The T20I series will be played from August 23 to 27.
