While Rohit Sharma-led India beat South Africa in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final at Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29, India’s women’s cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur was celebrating the win in Chennai where they are playing South Africa. Ahead of Day 3 of the one-off Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium, the team gathered and head coach Amol Muzumdar had a message for the team. 
 

“We had a lovely time watching the final yesterday. Well done everyone. To the entire team, many many congratulations (in unison)!’ Muzumdar said in the video posted on X by BCCI Women. 

Rana achieves rare feat in Chennai

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet's India have been dominating Laura Wolvaardt's South Africa in the one-off Test. After posting a record-breaking highest score of 603/6, Sneh Rana's record eight-wicket haul helped bowl the visitors out for 266 in 84.3 overs. Rana became the third bowler to take an eight-wicket haul in women's Test cricket. He joined former Indian player Neetu David and Australia's Ashleigh Gardner on the list.

Rohit, Kohli retire in style

Skipper Rohit and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20Is after India’s second T20 World Cup title win. Rohit (4,231 runs) and Kohli (4,188 runs) are the leading run-scorers in T20Is. On the other hand, Kohli (1,292 runs) retired as highest run-scorer in T20 World Cups with Rohit (1,220 runs) following him.
 

“This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel like you can't get a run and this happens, God is great. Just the occasion, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup,” Kohli who won the ‘Player of the match’ for his 76-run knock said in the post-match presentation.

In the press conference, Rohit confirmed his exit from the format on the international stage as well.
 

“This was my last game as well. No better time to say goodbye. I wanted this (trophy) badly. It’s very hard to put in words,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference.
 

“This is what I wanted and it happened. I was very desperate for this in my life. Happy that we crossed the line this time,” he added.
