ILT20 CEO povided a major update on Ashwin's participation

After recently announcing his retirement from IPL, legendary India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to be seen in action in overseas T20 leagues in the coming future. One of the tournaments that the 38-year-old has been heavily rumoured to playu in is International League T20 (ILT20) which is a competition based in the UAE. 

ILT20 CEO David White revealed that they have had positive conversations with Ashwin as of recent and added that it will be huge for the tournament if they manage to bring in a player of his stature.

"We are having very positive conversations with Ashwin, and hopefully we will have positive news in the near future," White told TimesofIndia.com.

If we can have a player of his stature, it would be huge. He is a world-class, generational talent. He has over 500 Test wickets, an outstanding ODI and T20I career, and what a cricket brain. A charismatic figure, an intellect of the game. If he plays in the ILT20, we will be delighted," he added.

Ashwin to be seen in player-coach role?

Notably, Ashwin has also expressed his desire of playing in a player-coach role in T20 competitions. When asked about this, White remarked that they are open to him in featuring in such a role and added that they are hopeful of getting him to feature in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

"I think we are open to anything like that. Not only his playing and coaching, but also his analytical skills. He has his own media company, which he is working on. He is a very clever guy. We would welcome all aspects. We hope to get him. Let's see what happens. Very positive for the man," White stated.

Meanwhile, Ashwin brought an end to his 16-season long IPL journey last month by retiring from the tournament. The 38-year-old let everyone know about his decision through a social media post where he stated that he wants explore various T20 leagues around the world.

"Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today," Ashwin wrote on his social media handle.

"Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPL and the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me," he added.
