Australia star batter David Warner announced Jake Fraser McGurk as his successor for Cricket Australia after their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign ended.

Australia star batter David Warner ends his international cricketing career after the side got out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He already retired from the ODI and Test cricket and this T20 World Cup was his last stint in the shortest format of game. Australia are out of the marquee event after losing two back-to-back games of Super 8 against Afghanistan and India. Warner shared a social media post and called Jake Fraser McGurk his successor for Cricket Australia.

 

 

Warner shared a picture with McGurk on Instagram and wrote, Warner posted a photo with McGurk on Instagram and wrote, 'All yours now champion.' Both Aussie players are teammates in the Indian Premier League as well. Both of them represented Delhi Capitals (DC) in the marquee event. 22-year-old McGurk has represented Australia in two ODIs so far. In these, he has scored runs at a strike rate of 221.73. In November 2019, at the age of 17, he scored half-centuries while making his first-class and List-A debut for Victoria. He is considered to be Australia's most explosive emerging batsman after Warner.

McGurk's performance in IPL 2024

 

McGurk impressed everyone with his hard-hitting knocks for DC in IPL 2024. He scored 330 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 234.04 including 32 fours and 28 sixes.. He was one of the most explosive batsmen of this season. McGurk was also a contender to be selected for the T20 World Cup. But unable to debut due to the set opening duo. 

 


David Warner's international career

 

David Warner joined the Australian team in 2009 at the age of 22 and in his 15-year career, the stylish batter scored 8786 runs in 112 Tests, 6932 runs in 161 ODIs and 3277 runs in 110 T20 Internationals. He is considered one of the best batsmen in all formats of modern cricket. Australia won two World Cups and one T20 World Cup during his tenure.
