Rashid Khan opened up on Australia's take on not playing a bilateral series against Afghanistan because of its government's policy of not engaging in any sporting ties with a nation that doesn't allow its women to take part in sports.
After defeating Australia in the Super Eight of the ongoing T20 World Cup, Rashid said that he wish that he could do something because he love to play against the big teams.
“Wish we could do something, and wish that was a kind of solution for it, we would have been happy, but I don't know what's the solution for that.
“....Some things, government, and political things, I don't know much about these things and I don't like it as well. So, I have no answer for this, but my only thing always in my mind is I love to play against the big teams" said Rashid during the post-match conference.
Why Australia denied playing a bilateral series against Afghanistan
After Taliban took over Afghanistan, the Australian government advised Cricket Australia (CA) to postpone the bilateral series considering the condition and situation of women.
A CA statement said: “Over the past twelve months, CA has continued to consult with the Australian Government on the situation in Afghanistan.
“The government’s advice is that conditions for women and girls in Afghanistan are getting worse. For this reason, we have maintained our previous position and will postpone the bilateral series against Afghanistan.
“CA continues its strong commitment to supporting participation by women and girls in cricket around the world and will continue to actively engage the International Cricket Council and work closely with the Afghanistan Cricket Board to determine what actions could be taken to support the resumption of bilateral matches in the future.”
Both teams have not engaged in international cricket outside of ICC events since August 2012.
