Indian Cricket Team's captain Rohit Sharma is set to create history as he will become the second only batter along with Bangladesh's Shakib al Hasan to feature in all T20 World Cups From the inaugural season. From winning the first-ever T20 World Cup to leading a 15-member Men in Blue squad in the United States and West Indies for the upcoming edition of the marquee event, Rohit has been one of the very first flag bearers of the shortest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma has the most appearances in the history of T20 World Cups. The star batter has played 39 matches and has scored 963 runs across those games. He is the fourth-highest run scorer in the history of the tournament and is only shy of 37 more runs to become the third batter with 1000+ runs in the tournament history. He also has the second most half-centuries (9 fifties) and is just behind Virat Kohli, who has 14 fifties in the tournament. 

 

The 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup will be Rohit's second time leading India in this mega tournament. He also led the Men in Blue in the 2022 season but had to take an exit from the semi-finals after a loss against England. He would now be eyeing to end India's more than decade-long ICC trophy drought and lift an ICC trophy as a captain.

Rohit Sharma is the second-highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals and the 7th highest in overall T20s. He got 11573 runs in the shortest format of the game. The Indian captain is also short of just 26 runs to become the second batter after Kohli to score 4000 runs in T20Is. The opening batter is one of India's top performers in this format and will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The star batter also holds the record for joint-most centuries in T20Is with 5 tons. He has overall 8 hundreds in the format.

 

Rohit Sharma's captaincy record in T20Is

 

Rohit Sharma is India's most successful captain in terms of win percentage. His stats are even better than Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Rohit took up India's T20 captaincy after the dismal run in T20 World Cup 2021. Since then, he has led India in 54 T20Is. Under his captaincy, the Blue Brigade have won 41 games and lost 12 whereas one ended in a tie. MS Dhoni who led India to the inaugural T20 World Cup trophy has a win percentage of 59.28. On the other hand, Virat Kohli has a win percentage of 64.58 from 50 games.
