Team India clinched another nail-biting thriller on November 02 (Wednesday) as they defeated Bangladesh by five runs in the ongoing 2022 T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval in a rain-curtailed match. Arshdeep Singh held his nerves in the final over and defended 20 runs despite a couple of boundaries off Nurul Hasan’s bat. After the Men in Blue registered a shaky win against a lesser-talented Bangladesh outfit, they all but ensured their qualification to the semi-finals.

After the game, Bangladesh's Nurul Hasan sparked a controversy when he accused India's superstar Virat Kohli of 'fake fielding', underlining that his team should have received a five-run penalty. The incident occurred in the seventh over of Bangladesh's run chase after Litton Das stroked the ball towards the off-side. As Arshdeep Singh hurled the ball towards the striker's end, Kohli, who was stationed at point, faked a throw towards the bowler's end. On-field umpires, Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown overlooked the incident as the two Bangladesh batter in the middle, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Das, also didn't complain.

After the game, Nurul Hasan pointed out the incident and said, "Certainly, the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually, what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake throw and it could have been a five-run penalty and that could have gone our way, but unfortunately, even that didn't come."

According to law 41.5, 'deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of batter' is prohibited and in case the on-field umpires deem the incident as breach of law, the batting team is awarded five runs while the ball is slated to be dead.

If Bangladesh were awarded five runs for Kohli's 'fake fielding', India would have gone on to lose the match as they clinched the match by the margin of five runs.
